Grab my hand; Or my Foot, moving through time, land and waves until we arrive.

2022–2023

2022-2023

The performance explores the journey of migration between Wales and Ireland taking experiences from our personal stories of travelling round Europe and the archeological discoveries.

Finding the curiosity in moving, seeing and settling within todays society. Reminiscing on the same journey that our ancestors took over thousands of decades. We are discovering our stories by reliving theirs through change of society, climate and countries.

Our piece was a 30 minute live performance choreography with an additional landscape movement film used as the backdrop throughout the piece.

This is a piece that Alexandra Bierlaire and I created under our dance collective Sandpaper&Mash for the European Portalis Project from 2022 to 2023.

Portalis was a pilot project that explored the first connections between Ireland and Wales, dating back to the Mesolithic period, about 10,000 years ago. The transdisciplinary project investigated, through evidence based research, how those first settlers adapted to their surroundings in order to survive and sought to understand whether there are any parallels with how we can adapt to climate change now.

We were amongst the artistic team of the project working alongside archeologists within the field to discover how people lived int hat time and perform it to an audience in a creative way.

This piece was performed in Waterford, Ireland and Aberystwyth, Wales.

In the performances we worked with musicians and composers: Marion Ingoldsby and Cathy Purcell to create live music alongside our dance movements.

Moments of our piece were also shown in the documentary project film created by Dr. Moira Sweeney for the Portalis `project to showcase the process of the project.
