Friederike Zinn

Dance artist/ Choreographer/ Teacher

About me

Hi my name is Friederike Zinn. (she/her)

I am a freelance contemporary dance artist from Leipzig, Germany. My background is mostly in classical Ballet and Contemporary dance where I studied at Ballet West (Scotland) and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (London). In 2023 I was awarded my registered teacher status with the Royal Academy of Dance in London.

I enjoy working as freelance artist because it allows me work creatively with many new talented artists either as a performer, choreographer/creator, and within a teaching environment. My recent work and research focuses more on modern/ contemporary styles incorporating various styles of Martial Art. Early 2023 I began training in Aikidō which has directly influenced my movement practise to what it is now.

My movement language focuses a lot on the use of fluidity and effectiveness within a performance space. The impact other bodies and cultural/societal rules have on our decision making within dance and our own movement language/background. As well as the use and art of dance as a movement language and its accessibility to many groups and cultures, with a specific interest to the deaf and hard of hearing community. Not to mention, it is important for me to explore the play and freedom that dance can provide through partner work styles.

I enjoy creating works using multiple mediums. In the past I have incorporated live performances with visual images/prompts, dance movies and documentaries, as well as working deeply with music alongside live composers and musicians.
