Between Me & Me
Choreography in the works

A contemporary dance piece bridging modern cultural expression with the wisdom of ancient martial arts.
This piece explores what it means to be bi- or multicultural, and the search for belonging when multiple cultures both resonate with and call
to a person.
In Between Me & Me the interaction between cultures is expressed through partner relationships inspired by the ancient Japanese martial art of Aikido. The performers’ individual dance backgrounds further shape and influence the way they communicate with one another.
Through a fusion of movement and dance styles, the work examines identity, belonging, and the celebration found within blended heritage and culture. The piece reflects on both the challenges and importance of connecting with one’s cultural roots, while questioning how fully a bicultural person can fit within a single culture. It also asks where the boundaries lie between cultural exploration and preserving the integrity of tradition.
Ultimately, the work is a celebration of difference, connection, and community within modern civilisation.
